ReaScripts: Field Recorder Metadata Match Criteria

Introduction

This script aims to emulate the most important fields of the Pro Tools Field Recorder Channels match criteria window. It is designed for field recordists and dialogue editors who need to sync multiple files based on their metadata.

This article was previously named ReaScripts: Field Recorder Match Criteria – iXML Metadata Pack, but I have renamed it to consider the fact it now supports other metadata.

Screenshots

Import audio files from folder if metadata match selected items (field recorder channel match criteria) – ReaImGui (NEW: 2023-05-16)

New version of the script! It has a brand new GUI and tons of new features, like Import on new tracks (previously was only on new takes), propagation of initial item/takes properties etc…

When importing on new tracks, it also group new items with original ones.

New ReaImGui versions, with new features!

Import files from folder as new take of selected items if iXML match

This is the old version of the script. Better use the one above.

Import alternative takes with matching iXML or other metadata fields. In this case, only take with matching Tape infos. Note that this screenshot isn’t made from the last version of the script.

Usage

Currently Supported Metadata

This is the up to date list of supported metadata, which can be different than the one present on screenshots.

  • filename
  • filename (n first characters only)
  • BWF Origination Date
  • BWF Origination Time
  • BWF Time Reference
  • IXML Project
  • IXML Scene
  • IXML Tape
  • IXML Take
  • Generic Start Offset

Multi-Tracks Workflow

If you have audio from very different sources (different microphone, different people etc…) it will be better to import this matching files on different tracks, so you can have one FX chain per track.

In order to achieve that, I made a companion scripts to explode items takes on tracks below, which you can use after import. NEW 2023-15-16: You can now import on tracks below right from the script, see ReaImGui script demo on top of the article.

Explode takes in tracks below. Contrary to the native actions, this doesn’t create new tracks, and takes are grouped, allowing to propagate editing of one takes to the others.
