nice article Ray. plenty of useful info, especially for those who hasn’t know REAPER.

just my two cents, i think it’s better to show original (unmodified) WT’s Imperial theme (as it written in the caption). The one that you posted was a modified one.

    anyway, keep em coming buddy

    JRENG!

  • Oh you are totally right, it was not Imperial but Dark Side Imperial ! Just corrected the infos. I’ll stay with this theme mod (at least for moment) as I like it and the screenshot is very relevant. For the moment, original WT’s work is already exposed with v5 theme screenshot :).
Thanks for your positive criticism, it is very appreciated 🙂

  • Vadym Mykhaylyuk

    Nice one! Thanks!

  • Thanks for the feedback 🙂

Great article Ray, definitely worth the long read. I will recommend it to anyone interested by REAPER, as it is the best place to learn a lot about what it can do. Super travail ! 🙂

  • Nice ! So it was worth it 😛
    Thanks !

  • Dan

Wow! I’m in the process of choosing a DAW and this is the best article I’ve read so far. Merci!!

  • Choosing a DAW is essentially a question of usage (what you want to do with it). That said, affordability and compatibily (with the OS) are also two key factors for the choice !
Regarding REAPER, you know now what you can have with it 😛
    Thanks !

Hi Ray, great review of Reaper DAW and I have to say a big thank you for the link to and kind words about my website – ReaperTV. :0)

    Keep up the good work!

  • Your tutorials are great and your site is one of the best looking I saw in the community so you really deserve it 🙂
Thanks for sharing all that for free ! I’m sure it helps a lot of people.
    Cheers !

  • Psmeg

Cheers Ray. The aim is to grow the channel / website into a large Reaper / Audio resource to help home studio users get the most from their gear. :0)

  • Tom Ritchford

That was an epic review – full of details without cruft, exciting without being unrealistic.

(Comment dit-on “epic review” en Français? C’est vrai que c’était un des meilleurs articles au sujet de technologie musicale que je n’ais jamais lu… et si l’anglais n’est pas ta langue maternelle, well, my hat is off to you…)

  • Indeed, French is my native language, but I can’t get all credits for this article, as I get help for the corrections (spelling and syntax) of the article to make it sounds more natural (see credits on bottom of the article) – and to clean some mistakes 😛 .
Thank you a lot for your words, it means a lot to me !
    Cheers ! 🙂

  • Zarathustra

I’m not sure whether I’m more excited with this excellent review or just eager to try out the DAW.
Very neatly written and to the point. Thank you for taking time to write this review.

  • Thx you very much, I’m glad this can help you in your REAPER journey 🙂

  • mike folk

  • Glad to hear it, thanks ! And welcome to REAPER 😛

  • Kareem O’Wheat

Great software priced fairly and lots of resources and videos on the software

  • SteveC

Many thanks for this great review. After a few years away from making music at home (I started in the early 90s with an Atari ST, C-Lab Creator, some synths and drum machines, and a 4 track recorder) I have decided to get involved again and build a new home studio. I’ve been doing a lot of research and playing around with several well known DAWs, including Reaper, but I don’t have the time to be fully learning and testing them all. Your article has convinced me to take the plunge and go with Reaper. I like the design philosophy, configurability and community approach. Thanks again.

    • HI Steve,
      thanks for your feedback,
I hope you will find satisfaction with REAPER. There is a lot of online resources to help you learn this software,
and if you are still stuck, you can still ask your questions on the Cockos forum 😛
      Good luck 🙂

  • asemkecut

    EXCELLENT POST

  • Phillip Archer

    Thanks.

  • Mr XavieR

Hello ! Thanks a lot for sharing goods, I wish study all items in depht ; so in fact i use Audacity ( very nice freeware ) but , if you want little bit more … it seems that’s Reaper must be a nice choice ( quality/price/flexibility ) I will try it with help of an Epic review ;_)) Merci beaucoup !

    • Nice if this review can help you 😛
Well, Audacity is more like an advanced audio recorder and editor than a full Digital Audio Workstation (with MIDI, VST, score editor…), so I’m pretty sure this upgrade in your workflow will be positive 😛
      Cheers !

  • Pat

Wow what a great review. I have been using the Roland VS multitrack machines, and was considering enhancing this by doing the mixing/ mastering on a DAW, but didn’t want to spend too much. Reaper looks like it would be a perfect fit. Thanks a million!!

    • Thanks you ! Reaper can definitely help you in this workflow, or for any other kind of project 😛 Enjoy !

  • Jorge

Excellent! I work with Ableton (an illegal copy, just like everybody here in Argentina) and really want to switch to Reaper. I think it´s extremely powerful and cheap. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!

    • Now you can to spread the words all over Argentina 😛 Cheers !

  • This is by far the very best Reaper Review out there. Thank you for sharing this 🙂
